Last week, a diverse group of industry experts attended two roundtable workshops in Guildhall to discuss emerging sustainability policies in the Planning for Sustainability SPD and City Plan 2040. The first roundtable workshop focused on the topics retrofit and reuse, greenhouse gas emissions and energy use, and circular economy. The second workshop was focused on climate resilience and urban greening and biodiversity.
Representatives from a range of organisations attended, including architects, environmental consultants, other London boroughs and government bodies, professional bodies, planning agencies and developers.
The discussion was lively and engaging. We are very thankful to the stakeholders who attended for their participation, collaboration, and feedback.
Please continue to provide your feedback. A reminder that consultation closes soon, on Friday 17 May. Donโt miss it, have your say today.
Also share your feedback on the City Plan 2040, consultation closes Friday 31 May.

With 25% of the UK’s total emissions directly attributed to the built environment, it is essential we tackle emissions associated with the construction, use and operation of our buildings.
Our new Planning for Sustainability Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) includes key actions and measures on reducing whole life cycle carbon and operational emissions in buildings in the square mile.
All developments must employ circular economy principles to ensure materials are retained in use at their highest value for as long as possible.
We are looking for feedback to ensure the SPD is as useful and ambitious as possible in driving sustainable development across all future City schemes. Have your say on the greenhouse gas emissions and circular economy chapters of the SPD before consultation closes on Friday 17 May 2023.
